Authors & Contributors: Can I Update Author Information

Authors & Contributors: Can I Update Author Information

Ensure that your book has at least one primary author. Alongside the author, you can also list contributors who played a role in creating your book, such as editors, illustrators, or individuals deserving credit.
When inputting the author’s name, pay attention to spelling and accuracy, as this detail cannot be altered once your book is published. This applies to paperbacks, hardcovers, and eBooks. The author’s name is a common search parameter for customers, so maintaining consistency with other works attributed to the author is vital. Additionally, various Amazon features (e.g., Author Pages, Series Pages, format linking) rely on a steady author name.
Please note: Any content in the author field that isn’t part of your official author name may be rejected. This includes excessive punctuation, HTML tags, and special characters. However, a pen name can be used as long as it’s appropriate and maintained consistently across your entire body of work.
Distinctions between Paperback, Hardcover, and eBooks
Setting up a paperback or hardcover book enables you to include a middle name/initial, prefix, and/or suffix with the author’s name. eBook setup does not offer this feature. If you require a middle name/initial, prefix, or suffix for your eBook, contact us and we can facilitate its addition. It’s important to retain author name consistency across all your published books.
Can I use a Pen Name for Publishing?
You can indeed employ a pen name or pseudonym for your titles. After publication, we might request rights verification for your book.
When utilizing a pen name, your actual name remains undisclosed and is not visible on our website. If you opt for a pen name, remember to provide your actual name in your KDP account information so that we can appropriately process payments and tax forms.
Can My Book Have Multiple Authors?
If your book has multiple authors, list them under the Contributors section. Choose “Author” from the dropdown of contributor type options. The name under the Author section will be displayed first on the detail page. Subsequently, the order of contributors will mirror that on your book setup page.
For eBooks, you can initially include 10 contributors during setup, but you can contact us to add more. Mobile devices will show up to 5 contributors for eBooks.
For paperbacks, you can include up to 10 contributors initially, with no option to add more. Mobile devices will display up to 3 contributors for paperbacks.
Understanding Author Pages
An Author Page consolidates all your work on a single page, giving you a platform to introduce yourself to readers. It enhances reader familiarity with you and simplifies their search for all your books in one place. An Author Page isn’t automatically provided with KDP use; you need to register for an Author Central account to create one.
Take a look at these Author Page examples: William Shakespeare, Delia Smith, Stephenie Meyer. Now explore a page for one of their books. Observe how you can enrich your detail page by adding a biography and editorial reviews through your Author Page. Essential information such as bibliographies, biographies, and author profile photos are displayed on the Author Page. Your book must be published before you create your Author Page, but you can start preparing for it now.
To learn more about creating an author page, visit our Author Central page.
Can I Update Author or Contributor Information?
Once published, you can’t change your book’s primary author information. Instead, you can create a new edition with the updated author name. Refer to our help page to learn about new editions.
You can, however, update your book’s contributors after publication. Find out how to update your book’s contributors.
