Managing Your Books on KDP: Unpublishing and Deleting

Managing Your Books on KDP: Unpublishing and Deleting
[*]

When it comes to managing your books on KDP, knowing how to unpublish or delete them can be valuable. Whether you’re making changes or reconsidering a publication, here’s a guide to effectively handling your bookshelf.
Removing Books from Your Bookshelf
If you have unpublished books or those without assigned ISBNs, you can easily remove them from your Bookshelf. For books already published, unpublishing ensures they’re no longer available for purchase. However, the book will continue to reside in your Bookshelf, marked as “Unpublish.” You can find instructions on how to make books unavailable for purchase or reinstate unpublished ones.
Deletion Process
Deleting books is straightforward under the following conditions:

[*]Book status is “Draft.”
[*]The book hasn’t been published before.
[*]No ISBN has been assigned.
It’s important to note that once a book is deleted from your Bookshelf, retrieval is not possible.
Here’s how you can delete a book without an ISBN:

[*]Visit your Bookshelf.
[*]Locate the book you want to delete and click the ellipsis button (“…”) beside it.
[*]Choose “Delete Book.”
Keep in mind:

[*]For published books, consider unpublishing to halt purchases. Refer to the unpublishing section for details.
[*]Drafts with assigned ISBNs can’t be removed from the Bookshelf but won’t be purchasable.
Unpublishing Your Books
Unpublishing your book makes it temporarily unavailable for purchase until you choose to publish it again. To unpublish:

[*]Visit your Bookshelf.
[*]Click the ellipsis button (“…”) beside the book you wish to unpublish.
[*]Select “Unpublish.”
Please note, upon unpublishing, customers can’t buy new copies via KDP. However, Amazon’s platform may still host used copies sold by third parties. This keeps your book’s page active on the website, though customers can’t acquire new copies through KDP until you republish.
Updating Book Details
For revisions like contributors, description, categories, manuscript, cover, or publishing rights, your book is subject to review. This ensures adherence to our quality standards. Some changes necessitate a new edition. To publish your updated book:

[*]Access your Bookshelf.
[*]Click the ellipsis button (“…”) beside the book you’re updating.
[*]Choose “Edit Book details.”
[*]Make desired changes and click “Save and Continue.”
[*]On the Pricing page, click “Publish.”
For details on timelines for updates to published books, refer to our resources.
In the realm of book management, understanding unpublishing, deleting, and updates empowers authors to fine-tune their literary endeavors with precision.
