AR cosmetics APP makes customers try beauty products on.
Agustina Sartori's lips keep changing color, from red to orange. Her eyelids turn silver, then pink, and then brown. Suddenly, her eyebrows thicken. In fact, we are watching a live view of her change on her iPhone screen.
Sartori is playing with the cosmetics(化妆品) retailer Ulta Beauty's iPhone app. It uses augmented reality, or AR, and a phoned front-facing camera to test thousands of cosmetics.
Augmented reality, a kind of technology that shows virtual images(虚拟图像)on live video of the real world, has been used in some mobile apps for years. Virtual tools are helping AR to be accepted by customers(顾客)and companies. Big beauty companies, such as Ulta Beauty, Sephora and L'Oreal, are using AR to sell their latest products(产品).
The app makers have done a lot of work to match real-life colors of beauty products with what appears on the smart phone screen. Customers can try on different cosmetics on the app.
"If you have 100 lipsticks, there's no way to try them all on in real life," said founder and CEO Parham Aarabi of AR cosmetics startup ModiFace. "But what is amazing about AR is that you can try them all on in about a minute."
